We played our roles, told each other lies.

But now Dylan is no longer just a mysterious deep voice on the other end of the line. We’re face-to-face and our relationship is very, very real.

We still have secrets—but so much is crystal clear:

The thrilling danger.

The raw, naked desire.

The need to keep feeling the way he makes me feel. Forever.

Dylan is putting up walls, trying to keep me safe, but he can’t shut me out. He has seen my darkness and rescued me. Now it’s my turn, if only he will let me.

THE TRUTH ABOUT HIM is told in the dual POV of Annie and Dylan.  You must read the first book in the series before beginning this one because this book picks up right where the first one left off.  Trouble follows these two wherever they go and right from the start Dylan and Annie are in physical danger.

Annie is trying to heal and move past the events of the last book.  Dylan wants to protect her, but is afraid his presence in her life is just going to complicate things further.  Together, they’re a hot, complicated duo that can’t seem to keep their hands off each other.  And where the last book focused entirely on Annie’s growth as a character, this book focuses on Dylan – his relationship with his estranged father, his MC brother, and the accident that changed his entire life.

Overall, I really enjoyed all the suspense and action packed into this second book.  The writing sucks you into the story and is phenomenal.  THE TRUTH ABOUT HIM  is a quick, super-steamy read perfect for a summer beach trip!

Lady Marisa Hawkstone’s nightmare is just beginning when she wakes up naked, with no memory of the night before, lying next to Maitland Spencer, the Duke of Lyttleton—a man so aloof and rational, he’s nicknamed “the Cold Duke.” A scandal ensues, in which Marisa’s beloved beau deserts her. As a compromised woman, Marisa agrees to marry Maitland. But on her wedding night, Marisa discovers the one place the duke shows emotion: in the bedroom, where the man positively scorches the sheets.

Taught from a young age to take duty seriously, Maitland cannot understand his new wife’s demands on his love and affection. Marisa’s hot-blooded spirit, however, does have its attractions—especially at night. In retrospect, it seems quite silly that he didn’t marry sooner. But being one of the Libertine Scholars requires constant vigilance, even more so when the enemy with a grudge against his closest friends targets Marisa. Now Maitland must save the woman who sets his heart aflame—or die trying.

I would classify this story as historical erotica instead of historical romance.  The plot revolves around a sex-based inciting incident and most, if not all, of the major plot points are also sex-based.  This isn’t a criticism – I thoroughly enjoyed A WHISPER OF DESIRE.  I simply point this out at the beginning of my review for those readers who prefer their historical romances more tame and/or based on non-sex-based plot points.

Maitland Spencer, Duke of Lyttleton, takes his role as a Duke of the realm very seriously, to the point where he is nicknamed “The Cold Duke” for his taciturn and aloof demeanor.  In this respect, he reminds me a little of Mr. Darcy from PRIDE AND PREJUDICE in that he is seemingly proud, but hides his great depth of emotion behind a mask of indifference.  Maitland is more proactive than Mr. Darcy, of course, and when he sees an opportunity to get his friend’s sister, Marisa, away from a horrible beau, he seizes the opportunity.  Compromised, Marisa is quickly wed to Maitland and the two begin to explore the pleasures of the marriage bed.

Marisa is far more emotionally mature than Maitland and as a result she is able to draw upon a great deal of inner strength when Maitland tries to pull away from her.  She is not afraid to explore her more sensual side with Maitland and uses this curiosity to encourage Maitland to open up to her emotionally as well as physically.

I enjoyed this couple and the fast-paced nature of A WHISPER OF DESIRE.  While it can be read as a standalone, it is obviously part of an on-going series, with some necessary backstory that must be understood for other events to make sense.  Maitland and Marisa also leave a lot of trouble in their wake at the end of this book, which with obviously (hopefully??) be addressed in a future installment.

Running from a troubled past, Sandra Barry spent years hiding out in New York City’s BDSM scene, finding satisfaction and even a sense of community as a sub at a large dungeon. But when a stalker joins the dungeon posing as a Dom, he crosses her personal boundaries, giving her no choice but to return home to Arizona. Seeking refuge once again in the kink lifestyle, Sandra meets a sexy new Dom whose tutelage drives her wild—although there’s something familiar about him she just can’t place.

As a teenager, Brent Weston was a nerd. Now he owns the hottest dungeon in Phoenix, enjoying the power and success he’s always craved. All that’s missing is the right woman to share it with. Then one day Sandra, his secret high school crush, walks into his club. She’s just as beautiful as he remembers. She’s also scared as hell. Brent has been waiting for this moment, and now that Sandra’s in his sights, he’ll do anything to protect her, pleasure her—and prove that he’s the only master worthy of her devotion.

On the run from an abusive Dom, Sandra Berry leaves her New York dungeon and travels back to her Arizona homeland in hopes of creating a fresh, new life for herself.  With a glowing letter of recommendation from her former dungeon master, she petitions for membership into the exclusive Club Desire.  There she meets Brent, the club owner and Dom whom Sandra feels an immediate and intense connection.  That attraction is mutual and soon Brent is pushing Sandra pleasurable boundaries while soothing away the fears instilled her previous, sadistic Dom.

If you read any BDSM novel, let it be MY OBSESSION!  This has everything I could ever hope for in a great BDSM erotica novel.  The sex is sensual, sure, but the focus is really on the “safe, sane, and consensual” motto of the BDSM lifestyle and the love scenes actually center around the sensations, emotions, and feelings the D/s relationship brings to Sandra and Brent’s life together.  A reader is given great insight into the thoughts of both Sandra and Brent and their growing relationship, but this doesn’t detract from the plot of the story.  In fact, there were times I felt like I was one of the voyeurs at Club Desire!  The scenes suck you in and you just can’t put this book down.  Well-written, great pace, a good cast of characters (whom I hope to see more of in future books), I finished this novel in just a few short hours and highly recommend you check it out too!

A fantastic erotica novel that I thoroughly enjoyed – this series has been placed on my automatic buy list!
