Annabelle Flynn is the sister of London's two biggest libertines, and her reaction has been to become the picture of purity. But the sensual nature of her family has not been lost on her and she is troubled by urges she dare not follow. She ignores the demands of her body and instead throws herself into two different activities. One is pursuing a proper marriage in Society and the other is trying to save her broken brother by following him into the shocking Donville Masquerade, part of a hell run by the mysterious Marcus Rivers.

By day, Annabelle pursues ladylike endeavors and seeks a staid husband to combat the wild reputations of her brothers. By night, she inserts herself into Marcus's business... and eventually she finds herself seduced into his bed.

But can a not-quite-proper lady and an entirely unsuitable cad find anything in common outside of the bedroom? And will Annabelle be willing to trade passion for cold, calculated 'perfection'?

Annabelle Flynn is the sister of the notorious Flynn brothers, Rafe and Crispin.  Though she’s not exactly squeaky clean herself, Annabelle hopes to use Rafe’s elevation to a Dukedom to secure a respectable society marriage.  Except she is still a Flynn and family sticks together so when Crispin spirals out of control in the infamous gambling hell known as The Donville Masquerade, Annebelle doesn’t give it two thoughts before marching over there to rescue him.  There she encounters Marcus Rivers, longtime friend of Rafe and Crispin and owner of The Donville Masquerade club.  The attraction between Marcus and Annabelle sizzles right from the start and Marcus agrees to let Annabelle come to the club under the guise of watching over her brother, but soon the temptation of their attraction becomes too much.  And what happens behind closed doors doesn’t always stay there.

Annabelle is a fantastic character.  She’s witty, intelligent, and incredibly loyal to her family.  She struggles with her darker Flynn desires, trying not to think about them or tamping them down, since she believes these desires are unacceptable in society.  And that’s the fundamental character question Annabelle’s character presents: do you embrace who you really are and what you really want or do you confine yourself to the strictures of what society believes you should want?

Marcus Rivers is quite interesting too.  Wild, demanding, and highly improper within the walls of his club, he’s quite able to play at being the respectable gentleman when in the company of others.  He has a tragic backstory that really tugs at a reader’s hearstrings and his utter devotion and desire for Annabelle is charming and sweet.

Together, Annabelle and Marcus are a fantastic couple.  This is Historical Erotica at its best.  Steamy and sensual like an erotica novel, but with the well-paced plot and character development expected of a historical romance novel.  Annabelle and Marcus are so perfect together – like two halves of a whole.  It was almost heartbreaking to read how neither believed they could have what they wanted (each other).  The push-pull of Annabelle wanting both Marcus and a respectable society marriage or Marcus wanting Annabelle but trying to respect the boundaries of both society and his “debt” to the Flynn brothers.  In the end, love and happiness wins out of course, but it makes for excellent reading material!

Although this is the second in the Notorious Flynns series, you do NOT need to read the first to thoroughly enjoy this second installment.  I recommend that you do, of course, just because both are great books, but it’s not necessary.  The third book, THE WIDOW WAGER, is Crispin’s story and will be released April 21, 2015.
