Crispin Flynn has been on a downward spiral ever since he lost the woman he loved and watched his brother forced into a life he never would have chosen. His response has been drinking and gambling his way to utter ruin. One night, deep in his cups, he places a dangerous bet that results in him being forced to marry Gemma, the widow of the Earl of Laurelcross.

Gemma once had a passionate side, but has been hiding it ever since her much older husband died during the act of making love. Now she finds herself the much unwanted wife of one of the biggest libertines in London and the subject of even more gossip than ever.

Once they determine they cannot escape the marriage, the two begin a slow circling of each other. Passion is easy, but can they overcome mistrust and secrets in order to make the worst night of their lives one of their best? Or are they bound to lose each other before their love can take root?

Another knock out of the park winner from Jess Michaels!  This book had me actually laughing in my chair.  And we finally get to read Crispin’s story!  I’ve been wondering what’s been going on with him since the first Notorious Flynns book.

Crispin Flynn once loved and lost a wonderful woman – first to marriage with another and then to death.  And he’s never gotten over it.  Instead, he’s found hollow comfort in whoring, drinking, and gambling, stumbling from one vice to another without a thought or interest in the consequences.

Gemma was sold off by her father as a prized broodmare to an elderly Lord; but when that Lord died before any children were conceived, Gemma was tossed back to her family like day-old fish.  And now she’s been sold off again, gambled away by her “loving” father in a game of cards to none other than Crispin Flynn!

Crispin and Gemma are two deeply wounded souls who find it very difficult to open up to others, especially each other.  I loved watching these two grow closer.  Gemma is almost like a healing balm to Crispin, pushing boundaries when needed and comforting at other times.  Crispin is exactly what Gemma needs too and together their love really heats up the pages.  Wow!  The sex scenes in this book are scorching hot, even a little kinky.  I loved it.

A gripping, emotional tale of love, betrayal, and what it means to be family.
